Join
the Sturgeon Rural Crime Watch Association.
SRCWA is
an all-volunteer, community-based service organization working in partnership
with the Morinville RCMP. Its focus is on a safer rural community.
Our goal
is to increase and strengthen crime prevention activities in Sturgeon County and
its municipalities through broad citizen participation.
Together,
as SRCWA members, we are additional eyes and ears in the county
and report suspicious activity to the RCMP. Now you probably do that anyway, but
when you are member of the SRCWA there is a big difference. That
communication becomes a two way street.
When you
become a member you will regularly receive timely and informative automated
telephone calls from the RCMP letting you know about criminal activity in the
area.
Being a
member doesn’t take up a lot of your time, but along with hundreds of your
neighbours, your assistance goes a long way to make Sturgeon County and its
municipalities safer places to live. The more members we have reporting
suspicious activity, the more effective we are in preventing crime.
So download our membership application below and
along with a one time $20.00 membership fee you can become a lifetime member of
SRCWA.

Our History
-
The Sturgeon
Rural Crime Watch Association is a not for profit
organization started by a number
of farm families in December 1983.
-
They established that a one time lifetime fee and a
background check by the RCMP were required for membership.
-
Sturgeon County was divided into 14
zones with a director and an assistant director for each zone.
-
The number has since been reduced to 13 as Zone 10
is now served by the Westlock RCMP.
-
Our membership has grown to
nearly 1,000 and our
lifetime fee is only $20.00 which covers some of our
membership kit costs.
-
Being a member does not take up a lot of time but it goes
a long way to make Sturgeon County a safer place to live.
-
Membership Kits include Rural Crime Watch signs and the
use of an engraver to mark your possessions for identification.
-
In the early nineties
we obtained an auto-dialer on which
all members’ phone numbers are registered enabling the RCMP to contact
members with important information. We subsequently purchased a newer version
of this equipment.
-
SRCWA obtains funding through grants from Alberta
Lotteries and from donations.
-
We are a registered charity under the Income Tax Act so
donations are tax deductible.
-
Funding pays to support crime prevention programs in
Sturgeon County and for equipment and operating costs, including the monthly
phone bill associated with the auto dialer.
-
Programs we have supported: Crime Stoppers; DARE;
Sturgeon Youth Council; Victims’ Services.
-
We have also helped in conducting surveys on seatbelt use
and stop sign violations.
-
In March 2008, we revised our publications and
application forms and prepared materials for our new web page.
-
Sturgeon Rural Crime Watch meetings are on the second
Tuesday of the month.
-
With few exceptions, meetings are held at the Provincial
Building, 10008 107 Avenue, in Morinville. Everyone is welcome.
-
There are no meetings in July, August, and December.
-
There is an annual meeting in November and a General
meeting in April. Members are informed as to the location of these meetings.
