April, 2011 - Our guest presenters for our SRCWA April 2011 General meeting were Don Hollingsworth, Jude Fraser, Nancy & Larry Hohnstein of the Canadian Search Dog Association.  The Canadian Search Dog Association is a dedicated team of volunteers and trained search dogs that assist different community Law Enforcement agencies to find missing or lost persons.  Specially trained teams of dogs and handlers undergo rigorous annual certification testing and ongoing training in order to maintain their status as an active team and are ready to respond 24 hours a day.

Don presented a very informative PowerPoint presentation to all the children and parents on how one can protect one self and how one can aid the search team when lost or missing. For more information on the Canadian Search Dog Association visit their website at http://www.canadiansearchdogs.com/about.htm

February, 2011

On February 8th, 2011 guest speaker Bonnie Felker from the Alberta Rural Crime Watch Association gave a dynamic workshop. Bonnie touched on the many benefits of becoming a member of Rural Crime Watch. Some of which included education & awareness, retention of volunteers, volunteer insurance, service awards for members, grants for speakers and more. The one item that garnered much discussion was: “what is your address for emergency service – legal land description or the 911 address”. It is recommended by the County of Sturgeon Protective Services that all residents learn and memorize their 911 address for any emergency assistance.
