The Sturgeon Rural Crime Watch Association takes part in the Annual Provincial Rural Crime Watch Association Poster Contest. School aged children throughout rural Alberta are asked to share their thoughts on Alberta Rural Crime Watch and Alberta Fish & Wildlife Protection in their posters. Approximately 10 schools from our Sturgeon County with students in grades one through nine are able to participate each year. Their posters are judged into two categories: Hand Drawn and Computer Generated. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners are declared in each category who best demonstrates crime prevention or crime awareness. Winners are locally presented with monetary prizes. All local 1st place winners are sent to the Alberta Provincial Crime Watch Associate Poster Contest where the Posters are reviewed and judged. The Provincial Association awards 1st place with a plaque plus $65.00, 2nd place with a plague plus $45.00, and 3rd place with a plaque plus $30.00. 1st place provincial winners also get the honour of having their posters included in the Annual Rural Crime Watch Calendar.
ALBERTA PROVINCIAL RURAL CRIME WATCH ASSOCIATION - POSTER CONTEST 2012 The annual Poster Contest is open to all students, grades 1-9 in rural communities. Posters can be HAND DRAWN or COMPUTER GENERATED (CG) , but the CG posters MUST show original content by the student as well. Incorrect spelling automatically disqualifies a poster. There are three (3) themes:
Posters need to represent what RURAL CRIME WATCH/CRIME PREVENTION means to each individual. All local Rural Crime Watch Associations are asked to hold their own contests. ONLY first place winning posters from local contests are to be sent to: RURAL CRIME WATCH POSTER CONTEST 2012 Alberta Provincial Rural Crime Watch Association #106 – 7000 113 Street, Edmonton, AB T6H 5T6 ALL QUALIFYING POSTERS MUST BE RECEIVED BY NOVEMBER 25, 2011.
Each of the Categories – at the provincial level - will be awarded the following prizes (all monies provided by Report A Poacher – part of Alberta Conservation) First prize $65.00 Second prize $45.00 Third prize $30.00 Winning students get prize money for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place; and the Solicitor General provides 1st place winner plaques. Selected posters may be featured in a calendar. All other posters are property of the APRCWA and will not be returned to the student/school.

It is also recommended that the local ceremony include your local RCMP, environment officers and dignitaries as it pertains to your area. 2011 Poster Contest Winners
Here are the 2011 Sturgeon Rural Crime Watch Association poster contest winners along with Cst. Armstrong, RCMP Officer, Elsie L’Hirondelle, Rural Crime Watch Poster Coordinator (back row left) and Roger Nykipilo, President (back row middle). Winners were from Grades one through nine, with two provincial winners, both from Gibbons School. Students worked with three themes, Rural Crime Watch – Are you Aware; Report a Poacher, and the RCMP. Posters needed to represent what Rural Crime Watch or Crime Prevention meant to the Student. Winners were presented with monetary prizes. Our local 1st prize winner’s poster from the Gibbons School is forwarded to the Alberta Provincial Crime Watch Association Poster Contest, where it will be included in the Rural Crime Watch Calendar.
