SRCWA President's June Feature

June 15, 2016

Hi Everyone,

June 14th was the last gathering of our group before our summer break.  It was more of a social evening and a pleasant one at that.

On June 11th a number of our members attended the opening of the new Protective Services Building in Sturgeon County.  It is a great building and a real asset to all the residents of the County. We are lucky to have so many qualified personnel in the event of an emergency.  Their hours of operation and telephone numbers are posted on our website.

One of our members updated us at to our status with communications – the transition so far has been quite smooth.  Our zone members will be contacting all of the phone members to find out if they do now have e-mail addresses or someone who is able to keep them abreast of the information the RCMP provide us to fan out. We have not had a lot of messages from the RCMP lately but Cpl Gulash advised me that there has not been much to report. We are not able to post anything to our website or fan it out to our members unless we receive it from the RCMP.

Bill Willocks the Peace Officer for Sturgeon County has been the liaison for us for several years.  His position has changed and we now have Matt Roblin who is replacing him.  We look forward to having Matt on board. We thank Bill for his years of attending our meetings and keeping us up on bylaws, any changes for the Peace Officers and anything of importance.  Thanks Bill.

The highlight of our June meeting is always the presentation of the Fred Scharmann Award to a worthy volunteer.  This year’s recipient was Greg Harrison, who has been our webmaster for the past eight years.  Greg has retired from this position although he is staying on to help us for a while longer.  Greg was volunteered by Cpl Laurel Kading who was the liaison officer with SRCWA at the time.  There have been changes made to the website many times and we have had over 10,000 visitors. If you would like more information, check out our website at http://sturgeonruralcrimewatch.org/  A job well done Greg and we thank you for that.

I personally thank Greg for all his help with my monthly Feature – he was always available to help with things like punctuation, grammar, sentence structure or as he would say “I made some subtle changes”  I knew when I sent in my Feature I could depend on him to “make me look good!!”

After the formalities we all sat back, relaxed, enjoyed the goodies and spent the evening visiting.  Our monthly meetings are strictly business so our chance to get to know the other board members is limited.  I hope everyone enjoyed themselves.

I say a huge Thank You to all my board members and executive – without all of you being so willing to put your heart and soul into our organization we just wouldn’t be here.

I wish all of you, our members a very safe and happy summer holiday.  See you in September.

If you have any questions or comments I would love to hear from you.  Please contact me at president@sturgeonruralcrimewatch.org

Thank you

Francoise Meunier
