Good Morning Everyone,

I have received this post from the RCMP as shown below, there have been an exceeding amount of Break & Enters in and around Sturgeon County, they have areas that are targets and asked that we be more deterrent to protect our properties.
So we SRCWA and the RCMP would like to remind everyone, as we have tips at the bottom of the page here, to be aware, lock your vehicle, take photos of your property and keep a record of what you have in and around your property as well. I do understand the frustration but l assure you l am working hard to resolve this and l do need your help as well. Please do not hesitate to send me an email on any questions, ideas, etc.

Thank you,
Bonny Swart-Attwood
SRCWA, President

Aircraft Struck with Green Laser

For Immediate Release                                                                                                                                                 December 7th, 2017

Endangering Aircraft - Sturgeon County, AB

On the evening of December 6th, 2017 Nav Canada informed Morinville RCMP of an incident near the Villeneuve Airport in Sturgeon County wherein an approaching aircraft was struck with a green laser.  Fortunately, the pilot was able to land the aircraft safely.  Morinville RCMP want to remind the public of the dangers of a laser strike on an aircraft.  The laser can temporarily blind the pilot, create intense glare that affect's the pilots vision, and distract the pilot putting all people aboard the aircraft at serious risk.  As per Transport Canada's website there were over 500 reported laser strikes in 2016.  It's a disturbing statistic - it means the safety of pilots, crew and passengers were put at risk 500 times that year. Pointing a laser at an aircraft is illegal and a criminal offence. Under the Aeronautics Act, if you are convicted of pointing a laser at an aircraft, you could face up to $100 000 in fines, 5 years in jail or both.

If you have any information on this crime, please contact the Morinville RCMP at 780-939-4520. If you want to remain anonymous you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), or by internet at www.tipsubmit.com.  You do not have to reveal your identity and if you provide information to Crime Stoppers that leads to an arrest you may be eligible for a cash reward.

Lights On! Doors locked! Pass it On!

Hello Everyone,

These 2 emails were sent for me to post so everyone is aware on what is happening in these subdivision areas, Northpointe and Skyglen, the concern resident wanted to let you all know to be vigilant of your surroundings, l ask that you report it, don't think  just do it. I can assure you it is filed when you call and will be investigated. I have your back, so do not hesitate to contact me as l am there to help you in anyway l can. Thank you to the concern resident as well, al so like the quote that is perfect.

Thanks,

Hi - I know how busy the RCMP are and you too but am forwarding this to you from someone in our subdivision - we had vandalism and break ins here that occurred on Mon morning (Dec 4)about 3 am and though I know we should always be vigilant the more warnings we have the more vigilant we become.  North Point is very close to our subdivision (Skyglen) so perhaps it would have helped us if it had been posted on Crime Watch.
Thanks for what you do,

In the gazette it was written that 4 properties were victims of the same type of crime in Northpointe on Nov 30th. They also stole a vehicle from there and were checking garages & such.

I also noticed a car that had driven through the ditch and up to the road by the rv storage down the road, that was Wed morning. The RCMP seemed very interested in it by day’s end.

I wish the police had let area residents know about the break ins in Northpointe, we would’ve been on alert and perhaps could’ve prevented being victims or maybe even caught them in the act.

Lights on! Doors locked! Pass it on!

A note, along with Information on the Home Invasion on charges laid

Hello to all Members,

My Apologies to all my members, as l had not posted this information but thought l did, just to let you know l have been working hard to help you to be more deterrent towards the crime. The crimes continue to happen along with  more aggressiveness, areas are getting hit over again, and the frustration of hearing nothing as they report it. I do understand the anger, frustration and the question Why should we report it when the RCMP don't come? My answer to that is Please call, it does get filed and everyone knows the RCMP are working 24/7 long shifts and yes, communications is a big part but lets work together to build this trust and show how strong of a community we can be.

Thank you

Morinville RCMP lay charges in summer home invasion
Morinville, Alberta – Following a lengthy investigation involving Morinville General Investigation Section (GIS), the Forensic Identification Section and the RCMP Edmonton Serious Crimes Branch, arrests were made and charges laid in relation to two separate home invasions.
On July 11, 2017 at 7:04 p.m., Morinville RCMP responded to a complaint of a home invasion where three masked suspects robbed a homeowner of cash and other valuables.  One of the suspects allegedly had a handgun and pointed it at the homeowner during this incident.  The homeowner was not injured.
On November 24, 18-year-old Elia Michael Zahara of Edmonton was arrested and charged with 19 criminal code offences including break, enter and commit theft, wearing a disguise and several firearm offences.  Of these 19 charges, three of them stem from an incident on July 5 where a similar home invasion with firearms occurred.

A 20-year-old male of Edmonton was also arrested and charged with eight criminal code offences including break, enter and commit theft, wearing a disguise and as well, several firearm offences.  He has been released to appear in court on January 11, 2018 in Provincial Court in Morinville.  His name cannot be released as charges have not been formally sworn.
A third suspect related to the July 11 incident remains unidentified.  He is described as a black male with dreadlocks who may live in the Edmonton area.
“The RCMP remains committed to conducting thorough and diligent investigations, oftentimes accessing several support units,” says Sergeant Dale Kendall, Acting Detachment Commander of Morinville RCMP.  “We don’t always see immediate arrests following reported crimes, but always know that we will investigate all aspects of the crimes reported.”

Auto Thieves like their job made easy, Please stay alert.

November 9, 2017
RCMP – Auto thieves like their job made easy
Alberta – Across this province, the RCMP, along with their partner police agencies, are warning citizens about the repercussions of leaving your unsecured vehicle idling.
The Police are asking vehicle owners to keep their keys / key fob on their person when allowing your vehicle to idle.  Auto thieves are roaming neighbourhoods and rural areas looking for a quick opportunity.  It takes less than a minute to get in a vehicle and drive away.
The mindset of a driver of a stolen vehicle is not always rational.  Situations involving stolen vehicles can have a significant impact on public safety and recently, police safety.  There is no expectation that a thief will take care of your vehicle.
Within the last week, the RCMP have had two examples in different jurisdictions were police safety was put severely at risk.  On October 28 Barrhead RCMP responded to a suspicious person complaint which escalated into the suspect stealing a tractor which had keys in it and ramming the police vehicle. Yesterday, in Red Deer a 21-year-old male stole a truck that was idling and when located by the police, he rammed the police vehicle with the truck.   Fortunately, in both incidents, no one was injured.
Since October 1, we have had 1420 vehicles stolen in Alberta RCMP jurisdictions‎. We know many of these were idling vehicles with the keys accessible.
Citizens are reminded to:
  • Never leave a running vehicle unattended. If your keys must be in the ignition to warm it up, citizens should remain with their vehicle.
  • Install a remote starter if possible, however, always make sure the vehicle is locked.
  • Use a steering wheel lock to deter thieves.
  • Never leave children unattended in a running vehicle.
  • Never leave spare keys or garage door openers in or around your vehicle. If a garage door opener goes missing at any time, the garage door should be immediately re-coded.
  • If your keys are stolen, immediately change the locks for the keys that have gone missing, including residences and vehicles.
  • Vehicles equipped with a keyless ignition can still be stolen if left running, even with the key fob removed from the vehicle.
  • Always lock the man door leading from a garage into a residence.
