Introduction

SRCWA is an all-volunteer, community-based service organization working in partnership with the Morinville RCMP. Our focus is on a safer towns and hamlets within our rural boundaries.

Our goal is to increase and strengthen crime prevention activities in Sturgeon County and its municipalities through broad citizen participation.

The more members we have reporting suspicious activity, the more effective we are in preventing crime.

Our History

  • The Sturgeon Rural Crime Watch Association (SRCWA) is a not for-profit organization started by a number of farm families in December 1983.
  • In 1983, a one-time lifetime fee and a background check was required for membership (no longer required).
  • Sturgeon County was divided into 14 zones with a director for each zone.
  • In the early 1990's a telephone fan-out system was utilized to send out automatic phone calls with recent crime activity alerts.  This system was recently updated to e-mail fan-outs.
  • Programs we have supported in the past include Crime Stoppers, DARE, Sturgeon Youth Council, Victims Services, and RCMP Citizens Academy.
  • Approximately ten years ago, a competition between Sturgeon Composite High School and Morinville High School was held in honor of the SRCWA 25th Anniversary to produce a piece of art work for SRCWA.  Morinville High School won the competition and the result is displayed in the Morinville Arena.  The intent was for the drawing to be displayed at the Sturgeon County Offices but they did not have a space available so the Town of Morinville displayed it in the arena.
