Athabasca RCMP Arrest Armed Robbery and Armed and Barricaded Suspects
Athabasca, Alberta - On April 18th, 2018 at approximately 5:40 p.m., Athabasca RCMP were called to attend to an armed robbery and assault on a Athabasca resident. There were three male suspects involved. According to the victim, one male held a sawed off pump action shotgun on the victim while the other two male suspects assaulted the victim and took his wallet and cell phone. The suspects then fled in a stolen brown Dodge truck heading possibly North towards Calling Lake. RCMP members patrolled Calling Lake and rural area, but the suspects were not located.
On April 20th, 2018 at approximately 11:00 a.m., Athabasca RCMP were patrolling South of Athabasca for several calls of a dark blue Dodge truck driving erratically and swerving into oncoming traffic. RCMP located the vehicle and attempted to stop it by using all emergency equipment. The suspect vehicle took off and tried to avoid the police. The suspect vehicle swerved at an oncoming police vehicle just missing the police cruiser. The suspects which were believed to be the same from the armed robbery a few days earlier, started to drive into oncoming traffic and police stopped their attempt at trying to stop the suspects for public safety reasons. RCMP later located the suspect vehicle as it was parked in front of a residence along highway 827 which is well known to police. Athabasca and Boyle RCMP along with the Emergency Response Team and Police Dog Services contained the area as it was believed the suspects were inside and armed. Five people came outside and entered back into the suspect vehicle and drove recklessly out of the yard avoiding police. Suspects drove Northeast of that location and were stopped by a spike belt on range road 214, North of highway 55. The vehicle entered a rural residence with front tire damage and fled from the vehicle into the bush. All five were later located in the bush and arrested without incident. Court dates are pending.
