Project Lock Up: Preventing Crime in
Rural Alberta

Unfortunately, property crimes are on the rise across Alberta. Many of these crimes are preventable if residents could take action to deter criminals and make their properties less enticing.

Programs started by the RCMP and other crime prevention organizations, like Project Lock Up, help local citizens take crime prevention into their own hands.

How Project Lock Up Works


RCMP Crime Reduction Analysts review data from calls to police to identify the areas where break and enters occur most often. Then they:
  • Determine where patrols are sent
  • Enhance oversight in the areas hit hardest
  • Come out to properties to provide prevention insights
  • Meet with local citizens and businesses
