March 9th, 2016
Greetings Everyone,
Our Poster Contest Awards and Annual General Meeting were held on Tuesday March 8th at the Rendezvous Club. There was an excellent attendance for the awards portion of the evening. Overall there were over 300 hundred entries in the contest and of that there were 29 winners. Congratulations to all - a job well done!
We had special guests for the presentation - Susan Evans, a County Councillor, Mayor Flynn and his wife Cecile, Cpl Robb and S/Sgt Suleman. It was really exciting for all the winners to receive their awards from the special guests. The icing on the cake was to have their pictures taken with all of them. Both Cpl. Robb and Sgt Suleman spoke to the attendees with their messages being directed to the young people.
Following the presentation we began our AGM. There too we had good attendance – with long time members as well as a new member. All of our executive and board members remain the same – the only change is that we now have Lucy Roy as an associate director in Zone 16, Morinville. We are still short of zone and associate directors for Zone 12 – Town of Legal, Zone 5 -Riviere Qui Barre and Zone 6 - Alcomdale/Mearns. If anyone is interested please contact me at president@sturgeonruralcrimewatch.org.
There was a question brought up by Jerry Belziuk, a Past President regarding a large drawing that had been done for SRCWA by the Morinville High School Students. You are able to read about it and see the pictures on our website http://www.sturgeonruralcrimewatch.org under About. It is also on our blogspot. http://srcwa.blogspot.ca
I will mention again that if any long term members would like an updated package of new member information including new signs and a tote bag please let us know.
You will remember that last fall we partnered with the RCMP to send out a mail card with information regarding mail fraud and identity theft. At Sgt Suleman’s suggestion, we have also partnered with the Town of Morinville. The Town will provide the information through their media as well as at the Trade Show in April. I have forwarded the information to the Sturgeon School Division, GSACRD and Ecole Centre Nord in Legal and they are willing to add the information to their newsletter. Thefts from mailboxes is on the rise so it might be wise to follow the information the RCMP have given.
As you are aware, Dan our communications director has updated our e-mail system.–All of our members have to subscribe and verify their e-mail addresses in order to receive our e-mails. Dan has also updated our phone out system. We are able to complete our phone outs instantly with this new service. If you have any questions please contact Dan communications@sturgeonruralcrimewatch.org or 780 901-2355. This is the new contact number for SRCWA.
We will be attending the Trade Show in Morinville on April 22 and 23. Lifetime Memberships will sold at the Morinville Trade Fair for $25.00. Our booth is sponsored by Sturgeon Valley Fertilizers. We will have a couple of draws – one is a Surveillance Camera donated by Morinville Shell and a bag of lawn fertilizer donated by SVF. Stop by and say Hi!. We will have promotional items and information for you.
The burn permits will soon be available at the Sturgeon County Offices or online. We might be in for a long dry summer so please be sure to have your burn permits.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact me at president@sturgeonruralcrimewatch.org
See you at our next meeting on Tuesday April 12th at 7 p.m. at the Provincial Building in Morinville.
